War never ends well

I was thinking today of wars that ended well. Well I guess you can say the US revolution ended well. Unless you think of all the poor souls that were lost fighting for it. In todays world the US revolution would have read as a headline, "Washington elected president of new republic, many lives lost and enourmous collateral damage harms US credibility". WWII ended well, except for the necessary evil of the introduction of atomic weapons.
Nuclear weapons in Russia no longer scare me, 400 Chinese nukes don't scare me, I am not even afraid on a nuclear accident on our US soil. What I am afraid of is religious fanatics having a nuclear weapon. Answer this question...If President Bush said to you, John Doe American here is the situation, within the next 3 years a country that has said that its main goal is to destroy Israel and then the US with nukes and they were getting close, John should we stop them? Should we kill the leadership? What should we do???? Well?
My response is, Mr President, sometimes you have to defend yourself when nobody else will. Draw a line in the sand and make them cross it. When they do hold them accountable. But remember Mr President, war never ends well and people will die, just make sure its more of them than us. In this case your enemy will decide if war is necessary.
